Farms and Fields
You wouldn’t know it by driving through Long Island today, but in the 1960s when I was growing up here, farms were in walking distance from my house. One by one, we watched as farms made way for housing and shopping centers and open land became a rarity. Many of the barns I have depicted were at the end of their lives, too dilapidated to survive another season or slated for demolition, so these elegiac portraits capture a way of life disappearing before our eyes.
